BBC taken for a Walk
Snow and ice didn’t deter the BBC radio 4’s Ramblings’ team from coming to Stroud and to be taken out across the Cotswold Hills by local artist collective Walking the Land.
Clare Balding, the well known broadcaster and face of TV sports programmes along with her colleague Producer Lucy Lunt joined lead artists Tom Keating, Richard Keating and Kel Portman on a walk that took them through the woods and open spaces of Rodborough, to draw, record and photograph the landscape.
The popular and long running Radio 4 Programme paints an evocative word picture of walking in the countryside with Clare Balding’s easy going and lively style informed by conversation and sounds.
As they walked, Clare Balding’s personal and descriptive observations of the beautiful snow covered countryside were enhanced by discussions with the artists about their influences, the local landscape and environment, it’s history and wildlife.
Clare, a keen photographer also took the opportunity to make frequent stops to photograph the area and was given creative insights by the Walking the Land team. Despite not considering herself an artist, Clare was persuaded to launch into several sketches of the snow laden trees and woodland.
Accompanying the group were other local artists: Suze Adams, Lucy Guenot, Penny Prince, writer and artist Martin Large, photographer Ian Peters and well known novelist Alice Jolly.
The Programme is due for broadcast on Sat 13th Feb 06:00 & Thurs 18th Feb 15:00
