Profile Information

Welcome! FierySpirits is for activists and professionals who are building vibrant, resilient rural communities. Tell us a little about why you'd like to join?
I would like to join as I opened a Village Store & Post Office in the Village where I grew up and it's been a great success, now I want to live in the area and I can't.
I need to know new solutions for rural areas to include everyone.
About Me (areas of expertise/interest I can share)
If you tel me it can't be done, I will try & find a solution. I am always hectic with work now running two shops, but I also sit as a Volunteer on four coimmitties, one is a RUral Hub, one has Safeguarding responsibilities and the other if for the local tourism industry.

Hi
Great stuff - I will put you on the delegate list I am compiling and get details sent out when confirmed. That's really wierd - I started getting email updates from Jesse Norman a few months ago and have no idea how I got onto his email list. He is involved in some really interesting things though- heard about the Young Farners film that is being made and more recently the Broadband Summit that he is organising for this Friday. He is definately someone we will invite along to the CLT event/ network site.
All the best
Kirsty

Hi Christine
So good to 'see' you here!!! One of the original Carnegie inspiring case studies! 2006 seems such a long time ago! Great to hear that the shop and post office are developing (2 shops now!) We are holding a Community Land Trust seminar at the Eden Project in Cornwall on teh 3rd and 4th November which you might be interested in. Its aimed at communities wanting to find out more so might be a fit for you? Will be posting more info on here soon. In the meantime - keep posting your news here - so great to hear about your progress! All the best Kirsty

Hi Christine,

Further to Nick's comment below, your profile biography suggests that you may be interested in the concept of a community land trust. If you're not already aware of them, CLTs provide a model of community ownership and are commonly used to provide affordable housing in perpetuity. They have been particularly successful in rural villages and market towns blighted by disproportionately high house prices.

We have a Ning at www.communitylandtrusts.ning.com and a website at www.communitylandtrusts.org.uk - there's plenty of expertise there in addition to the impressive knowledge and resources here on Fiery Spirits.

Best wishes
Tom

Welcome into FierySpirits Christine.... you sound mighty busy. It sounds as if a community land trust might be something to explore if you're not already doing this - check out for example a series of new films that my colleague here at Carnegie Trust put up yesterday:

... and hoping you get a bit of time to enjoy some sunshine too!

Best wishes
