April 20, 2012 from 9am to 5pm
In recent years, awareness has grown of the importance of water supply for sustainable community development. While national water supply systems fulfil many functions; protecting public health, meeting industrial, commercial and residential demand, and maintaining environmental quality, community involvement in management of water systems may represent an opportunity to improve performance at the same time as generating income from the by-products of the water system, thereby enhancing…See More

Nick Wilding commented on Lucy Conway's blog post Thoughts on winning £300K in NESTA's 'Big Green Challenge'
"Interesting to see where NESTA are now taking the 'Big Green Challenge' - see their paper on 'mass localism'. I'll be taking part in a NESTA inquiry into innovation and diffusion in networks such as FierySpirits this Spring…"

Kate Braithwaite commented on Lucy Conway's blog post Thoughts on winning £300K in NESTA's 'Big Green Challenge'
"No plans to distribute prizes - we did celebrate unsung heros last year - rural sparks who make a big difference - but everyone was a winner in our eyes. It seems to mean a great deal when the efforts of volunteers are recognised and so i think that…"

To meet some kindred (and fiery) spirits!
About Me (areas of expertise/interest I can share)
Based on the Isle of Eigg, I have worked in the creative and arts sector for the last 25 years on everything from organising events and festivals, to fundraising and research.

I'm one of a large team of volunteers who have led the Isle of Eigg’s £1million bid in NESTA’s Big Green Challenge which, over a 12 month period, seeks to find the community that reduces its CO2 emissions by as much as possible, in innovative ways which involve their community and that can be replicated by others. Eigg is the only Scottish community of the ten finalists.

I am a Director of Comas - a community development agency working in Scotland and Sri Lanka - and a member the Technical Advisory Panel for Distance Lab - a creative research organisation working on the theme of distance.

So, Eigg won! Won what? £300,000 in the Big Green Challenge - NESTA’s £1 million challenge prize designed to stimulate and support community-led responses to climate change. They said “Through the Big Green Challenge, we aim to uncover what support these communities need to transform their bright ideas into viable solutions that will improve all of our lives.”

HELP CORRECT - PEAK OIL IS NONSENSE

Posted on August 3, 2009 at 8:30 2 Comments

Interesting article on Peak Oil in today's Indendendent, but followed by four pages, in the last eight hours alone, of people saying Peak Oil is nonsense and oil will never run out. I don't know enough about the subject to put up a strong argument - can you balance the comments section up?

Hi Lucy

Was lovely to meet you too. I've forwarded your details on to Peter Harper who may be doing some ZCB stuff in Scotland. I'd love to come up to Eigg sometime! And do let us know if you're planning a trip to Wales.

Julie
