Profile Information

Welcome! FierySpirits is for activists and professionals who are building vibrant, resilient rural communities. Tell us a little about why you'd like to join?
My work is focused on: indigenous peoples rights in the humid tropics; biocultural diversity and resilience; tools for empowerment and movement-building; preventative not just reactive campaigning; promoting positive stories, not just despair. I hope to find an array of stories and insights in this community of practice that will inform my work and expand my horizons, especially in analysing and learning from the similarities and differences in approaches to rural resilience in the UK and Ireland and in the global South.
About Me (areas of expertise/interest I can share)
I'm an anthropologist and forester, with 18 years experience working with indigenous and farming communities, helping facilitate the set up of several community-led organisations. I also helped to operationalise DFID's Multistakeholder Forestry Programme in Indonesia and worked as Senior Campaigner for Environmental Justice with Friends of the Earth before co-founding LifeMosaic.

Please take a look at George Mombiot's article and short film about interviewing the chief economist of the International Energy Agency (IEA). For the first time the IEA admits that peak oil is happening, based on their own assessment of the worlds 800 largest oil fields.

For many of us this will not come as news, but for the first time this view is coming from the agency whose assessments drive energy policy-making internationally and in the UK and Ireland. For our community of practice,… Continue
