Social Capital & Community Resilience

Assist Social Capital's 3rd international conference is shaping up, with numbers now spilling over the 100 mark. We hope to see at least 120 on the day.

After finding out about Ning from Nick Wilding (i.e. this site) Assist has developed a Social Capital Ning for conference delegates. There's a growing number of videos on social capital a blog from Thornlie Primary School's head Teacher David Hughes on their international social enterprise activity and a small number of relevant pictures from delegates.

We have 9 seminars at the event with presentations from Thailand about a social capital approach to a hugely successful appropriate technology canal cleaning project as well as presentations from Nigel Lowthrop from Hill Holt Wood and case studies from India, Brazil, Argentina, Austria and also Scotland.

It would be great to see some of the Fiery Spirits along at our event which takes place in the amazing setting of New Lanark.

Hi Colin

I've been meaning to be in touch for a while to reconnect - especially in the context of outcomes from your resilience event ... are you taking forward any strands as outcomes from the event? Also, you might have seen that there's a resilience inquiry underway as a group on fieryspirits. It could be really helpful to cross-fertilise some of our learning ... for example, great to see Cynthia connecting into the forum and her slides on resourcefulness, courage and persistence very helpfully introduce some new vocabularly grounded in a good study...
anyway, thought I'd say hello again and touch base

Thanks for flagging this up again.... good news is that I'm now able to come, so looking forward to seeing you there. Looks like a brilliant opportunity to deepen our understanding and practical skills in building community resilience, as well as (seeing Graham's recent post) responding in a timely way to the increasingly urgent need to bring focus to these conversations at every level.

I shall come along to listen, learn and to keep an ear to the ground about ways in which Carnegie UK / FierySpirits might helpfully respond to themes emerging from the day. Look forward to seeing the ning site, too - very helpful technology! I sense great potential for these proliferating 'ning' communities to inform one another, made easy as once you're a member of one network you don't need to sign up again to join another.

Best for now
